About Walnut Rv Park
Experience a slice of classic Americana at Walnut RV Park, located right on the legendary Route 66 in Vega, Texas.
We offer 34 spacious, full-hookup sites with 110 V, 30 amp, and 50 amp power, plus water and sewer connections on every site. Guests enjoy clean and comfortable men’s and women’s bathhouses, restrooms, and an on-site laundromat— everything you need for a relaxing stay on your road trip.
And because modern travelers still need to stay connected, we’re proud to offer the best Wi-Fi you’ll find at any RV park — anywhere. Stream, work, or video chat with ease while soaking in the charm of the Texas Panhandle.
On the corner of our property sits a true relic of the Mother Road — a 1950s Gulf gas station that we’re lovingly restoring with help from our community. Our dream is to one day turn it into a small museum, celebrating the spirit of Route 66 and the history of Vega, Texas.
One of our favorite features is our 1960 Ford F-100 tow truck, affectionately known as R.V. Parker III. Donated by a generous local family who wishes to remain anonymous, this cheerful truck — complete with big painted eyes and a grin — has become our park mascot and a must-see photo stop for travelers. He may remind you of a certain movie tow truck, but R.V. Parker III has his own one-of-a-kind Route 66 personality!
We’re currently looking for 1950s-era Gulf gas pumps and other Gulf memorabilia to help complete the restoration. If you have vintage Gulf items you’d like to share, we’d be honored to display them proudly in the future museum.
Over the years, Walnut RV Park has hosted its share of legends. Locals still tell the story of Dean Martin and Jerry Lee Lewis stopping here — filling up at the Gulf station before grabbing a bite at the old café. Long-time owner Melvin Williams remembered them well: Jerry Lee may have been a handful, but Dean Martin left a lasting impression, tipping young Melvin a silver dollar.
Today, Walnut RV Park is owned and operated by sisters Mary and Elizabeth, along with their nephew Jimmy. Together, they’ve been restoring and re-imagining the park.
We still have big plans ahead, and every guest who stays with us becomes part of that story. Whether you’re traveling coast-to-coast or just exploring the Texas Panhandle, we invite you to slow down, stay awhile, and experience the magic of Route 66 right here at Walnut RV Park.
Book your stay today — and help us keep Route 66 alive for generations to come.
